Combating Injury Claims in Health Care Fields

The largest rising cost amount employers have been injury claims. Employees in the health care field have seen claims rise over the past 10 years 1 . Many of these injuries are caused by day-to-day tasks. Some of these tasks include moving or adjusting patients and pushing or pulling furniture. For example, a study found that 10.9/100 workers in the health care field would have an incident. 2

Time away for the injured worker increase stress on their co-workers. With one employee gone, the amount of work that others must pick up increases. Therefore, causing the potential for them to rush through their tasks in the time given to them. Liberty Mutual Insurance did a study in 2018 that states 23.4% of workplace injuries are caused pushing or pulling furniture. 3

Instead of moving clients to and from their tables while in standard chairs, we offer many mobility options.  All our mobility options have in mind not only the comfort of the user of the chair but also the safety of the caregiver.

For example, the Royal EZ can be installed on a dining room chair and is available on our Titan and Contessa series. If you are in a “no lift” facility 4 we also have chair options that would be available. For this purpose, the Titan Swivel chair allow the user or caregiver to push a small lever to turn the chair to the table before it will lock in place. Our new Chair Caddie allows for full movement of the client with a brake that ensures that it locks.

Simple changes like adding mobility assistance chairs into the current inventory can help reduce these costly incidents. Visit our website for more information on these and other products that we offer.
