The cost of elder care in the USA

Last year, Genworth issued their 2015 Cost of Care Survey results, showing how much it would cost to receive elder care at home, in assisted living, and in a nursing home:

Type Cost (USD)
Home health aide $45,760
Assisted living $43,200
Nursing home (semi private) $80,300
Nursing home (private) $91,250

We can see that the cost of receiving care as we age is substantial. It’s one reason why it’s important to start young to plan for aging well. Aging well can prolong our mobility and independence as we get older.

With elder care costs being as high as they are, it’s no wonder that 90% of older adults want to age at home. Aging in place efficiently takes planning to make sure our homes can accommodate the various stages of aging. Retrofitting your home for aging in place can cost thousands of dollars, and it’s one reason people turn to universal design when building their homes.

It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of aging in place consisting of permanent components in a home, but it can also include flexible, mobile solutions, such as furniture.

At ComforTek, we specialize in innovative furniture solutions that help older adults age in place. These solutions maintain independence and dignity for those receiving care and safety and easy for those providing care.
